Phantom Objects Hit Cars in Bay Area

If you are driving in the Antioch area, beware of an unknown person who seems to be throwing objects at passing cars. It may seem like a harmless prank, but the result of the string of incidents has caused hospitalization for the affected victims and damage to passing vehicles.

The incidents seem to be centered on Highway 4 that runs through Antioch, California. As cars pass under an overpass, something hits their vehicle. In some cases, the object has gone through the windshield and injuring the people inside.  Continue reading →

Bad Genes in Bad Driving?

Sometimes it seems like bad driving runs in the family. It seems like one driver’s bad habits beget another. The natural explanation could be that learning from a bad driver makes another in turn. However, there was a study in 2009 at University of California Irvine that suggests a gene could be responsible for poor driving skills.

The gene in question is responsible for secreting a protein called brain-derived neurotrophic factor, which neurologists may refer to as BDNF. The protein is helpful in communication between cells and also affects memory retention. BDNF is meant to go help in the active areas of the brain during certain tasks like driving in order to facilitate better cognitive response.  Continue reading →

Pilot Dies in Plane Crash on Santa Monica Streets

An experienced airplane pilot died on Friday evening, August 10, after his plane crashed into a West Los Angeles neighborhood. It is still unclear what might have caused the plane accident and investigators are looking into the mishap. The victim was identified as Sean McMillan of Westchester, an attorney and pilot.
