It was a bad day to be driving a big rig truck on Interstate 5 around Newhall, California today. In two crashes, 9 16-wheeler semi-trucks collided with each other in the truck tunnels on the bypass route for Newhall Pass. An Amtrak train headed southbound from Oakland was hit by a big rig mid-afternoon October 1. At least 20 people on the train were injured in the crash that knocked the four car train and locomotive off the tracks. The train was due to arrive in Bakersfield, but was hit just south of Hanford, California.
While the big rig was crossing the tracks at a gated stop, the truck did not yield to the oncoming train with dangerous consequences. The driver sustained minor injuries, ranging from cuts to bruises. Four passengers on the train were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. Continue reading →
Dangerous accidents can happen in the dead of night. When roads are quiet and empty, there are still chances of getting involved in a car collision that leads to personal injury. Some of these accidents even lead to death. Just the other day, a deadly crash occurred on Tuesday, July 24. A driver and his pet dog were killed when a van rear-ended a utility truck. Two Caltrans contractors also received minor personal injuries on the Interstate 10 westbound freeway.
July 4th, Independence Day, is known as the day with the most accidents in the entire year within the United States. With this historical day approaching closer and closer, it may seem as if the accidents are also starting to pile up. Just this morning, Tuesday, July 3—one day shy of Independence Day—a truck accident has occurred on the I-5 Southbound freeway near Norwalk.
Big rig crashes can be one of the scariest accidents to be involved in. The mass and weight of a truck can be intimidating and the amount of damage it can inflict is also frightening. Out on the roadways, semis can seem relatively safe if the driver is being careful and attentive to the drivers and passengers around. However, if a truck were to cause an accident or be part of one, the trauma and harm that results can be overwhelming.
