DUIs have long been frowned upon by government officials and citizens alike. The pain and suffering and personal injury they cause could have been prevented if only the driver had chosen to be responsible. For one famous athlete, his DUI arrest has been made public as his team and fans wait for the result of his alcohol level. The running back for Seattle Seahawks, Marshawn Lynch was arrested on Saturday, July 14 for DUI suspicion in the Oakland area. While Lynch can run on the field, it doesn’t look like he can run away from the law.
On Saturday morning, Lynch was stopped on suspicion of DUI by California Highway Patrol officials. He was spotted driving carelessly, weaving between lanes, on Interstate 880. When the athlete was stopped, he showed obvious signs of intoxication and failed many field sobriety tests. It was then that police officers arrested him at 3:42 a.m. and transported him to Santa Rita jail. In the jail, Lynch was cited and took a chemical test to determine his alcohol level before being released. So far, there have been no indications of whether he was charged or not.
The results of the test will be forwarded with other information to Alameda County district to the attorney’s office. From there, it will be determined wither the running back will be charged. No further information on whether or not he will be arrested has been given.
Lynch, 26, is originally from Oakland. Upon returning to his hometown, it looks like the football player decided to let loose. Too bad for him, he did not think about getting a designated driver. Instead, he became the negligent driver and is now facing the consequences of his actions. He was arrested in the city of Emeryville.
On Monday, the Seahawks released a statement saying that they were “aware of the situation with Marshawn and still gathering information.” Everyone is currently waiting in suspense on whether or not the football star will be charged for driving under the influence. Lynch’s agent has not given any comments or statements to the Associated Press.
Marshawn Lynch had signed a $31 million four-year contract in March that will keep him with the Seattle Seahawks. His NFL career has been taking off with the 12 touchdowns he made just last season. His fame and skill have been gaining momentum yet sadly, his DUI arrest has brought a negative impact to his reputation. It was his duty to be responsible after he consumed alcohol and to not endanger any other lives out on the road. Thankfully no one had been hurt because of his careless actions.
